Altenheim Campus Construction Completion
In 2018, Altenheim expanded its not-for-profit life plan community by opening the Shurmer Place Memory Assisted Living residence and the Altenheim Therapy Rehab Center. These facilities were designed to meet the ever growing demand for memory care services and accommodations and short-term, post-hospital stay rehabilitative services. Shurmer Memory offers 38 private suites. The Therapy Rehab Center offers 32 private rooms including private showers and baths, and a state of the art therapy gym. Both facilities were designed utilizing planetree principles which stress the importance of the physical environment in healing processes.
On May 19,2018 Altenheim hosted a grand open house with refreshments and prizes, as well as tours of the beautiful new communities. ESPN provided a live remote broadcast outside the Therapy Rehab Center and local basketball star and broadcaster, Austin Carr greeted guests and was available for photographs and autographs. Cleveland’s finest DJ from Troy Entertainment provided music. Lolley the Trolley offered transportation between the communities to facilitate tours. The Brew Kettle of Strongsville provided a delicious buffet and Brew Kettle Beer. There were close to 1000 in attendance at the open house.

“I have an unwavering belief that environments affect people’s behavior – that design matters. Our focus is on creating designs centered on the needs and experiences of the users – that is both residents and staff. In designing the Memory Assisted Living and Therapy Rehab Center for Altenheim, empathy was a design strategy to create spaces that promote an enrichment of life.”
