Ways to Give
The Altenheim Foundation, a 501(c) (3) public charity, serves as the fundraising art of Altenheim Senior Living. Gifts raised through the Annual Appeal, planned giving and all other fundraising efforts support residents and their families with special services and programming. Gifts to The Foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by law.
Altenheim conducts relationships with donors, prospects and friends according to the Donor Bill of Rights developed by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Association for Philanthropic Healthcare (APH), Council for the Advancement and support of Education (CASE) and The Giving Institute.
The CARES Act was signed into law on March 27, 2020 and includes provisions that affect individual and corporate giving.
60% of AGI limit suspended for 2020
For the 2020 tax year, individuals can deduct any cash contributions made to qualified charitable organizations, up to 100% of their adjusted gross income (AGI). Deductions for cash donations were previously limited to 60% of the taxpayers AGI.
Corporations’ 10% limit increased to 25% for 2020
For the 2020 tax year, corporations can deduct up to 25% of the taxpayers’ taxable income for any cash contributions made to qualified charitable organizations. Deductions for cash donations were limited to 10% of the taxpayer’s taxable income.
New $300 deduction for qualified charitable donations
Individuals who take the standard deduction can claim an above-the-line tax deduction for cash donations to qualified charitable organizations, up to $300.
Deductions for gifts to regional response funds
Donations to regional response funds qualify for the additional deductions
Donor-advised funds not affected
Deduction limitations for charitable gifts to donor-advised funds, private non-operating foundations and supporting organizations were not changed under the CARES Act.]
Gifts to the Foundation are tax-deductible to full extent of the law. Ways to support our mission include:
PLANNED GIVING leaves a lasting gift that will benefit the donor and generations of residents. These gifts include:
- A bequest in your will
- A life insurance policy
- A beneficiary trust
- A charitable gift annuity
- A charitable remainder trust
The 1892 Founders Society honors those donors who have made planned gifts to Altenheim Foundation of $10,000 or more.
Every year, friends of Altenheim are asked to support the programs and activities that promote the quality of life for residents. You are invited to become a member of The Giving Society with a gift of $200 or more. You may claim up to $300, if you take the standard deduction, as an above-the-line tax deduction.
There are several rooms and areas available for naming opportunities throughout Altenheim Senior Living. A permanent naming opportunity is a wonderful way to leave your legacy at Altenheim, honor a beloved family member or salute an incredibly talented member of the Altenheim staff.
